2018 Fall Convention Update

701

A core committee of WSPA Trustees have begun planning the Fall Convention and selected “Coming Together: Psychological Science and the Practice of Healing” as this year’s theme. The convention returns to the Hilton Hotel in Bellevue, WA on November 2-4, 2018. The convention will combine networking, reputed speakers and presenters, student poster presenters, exhibitors, awards luncheon, and membership events to create a great continuing education experience. Attendees can earn up to 18 CE credits during the 3-day convention.

A call for CE Workshop Proposals was sent to members last week and we anticipate being able to list workshop titles by September. Sponsorship, Exhibitor and Advertising information will be available in the next few weeks.

Convention Committee Volunteers Needed. Sign up by July 13, 2018

The Convention Planning Committee and CE Application Approval Committee need volunteers to make the 2018 fall convention a success. As thanks for their time, volunteers will receive Early Bird pricing during the entire registration schedule and a special thank you gift at the convention.

Convention Planning Committee

This committee will review and select the CE workshop and student poster session applications for the convention, and follow a standardized process to coordinate confirmation of acceptance, submission of CE application, and receipt of final presentation materials. Committee members will also judge the student poster session. Logistical planning for the convention will be handled by WSPA staff. To volunteer for this committee, please email board president, Sonia Venkatraman, Ph.D at wspa@wapsych.org.

CE Application Review Committee

This committee reviews all CE Proposal submissions that have been approved by the Convention Planning Committee. CE Applications for the convention should take no more than 60 to 90 minutes to review plus there may be an additional 20 to 30-minute review of an updated application. The CE proposals are reviewed remotely/electronically through a Google shared drive and email. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact committee chair, Erica Johnson, Ph.D. at ericajohnsonphd@uwalumni.com for more information.

Make plans to attend today!

We will have our website updated for registration by August. The 2018 Fall Convention is building off of last year’s very successful fall convention which received a lot of praise for the professional atmosphere, quality of presentations, and overall management of the 3-day event. Here are a few comments from 2017 Fall Convention attendees:

Worth every penny. I am an early career psychologist and I found every workshop I attended so valuable!

This was my first time attending a WSPA convention & it was a very positive experience!

Wonderful experience at the convention. Staff members were friendly, competent and very helpful! Terrific time at the convention with great speakers, excellent facilities, interesting and useful workshops and a good time with colleagues. Way to go WSPA!

I had a wonderful experience at this convention. It exceeded my expectations. The staff from WSPA–Marvo and Sierra–were terrific and they should be commended! It took a lot of hard work to put this together. The facilities at the Hilton were terrific. I also stayed 2 nights at the Hilton for the workshop and I had a great experience. The speakers that I listened to (3) were all outstanding. The titles for the Ethics workshop and Mindfulness workshop sounded very dry, but my experience was very rewarding, and all of the speakers were prepared, organized and were excellent instructors! …Awesome job, WSPA!
