Call for Comments: Proposed Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Girls and Women

725
The Board of Professional Affairs (BPA) seeks public and member comments on the proposed Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Girls and Women.  The purpose of these Guidelines is to (1) assist in the provision of gender-sensitive, culturally competent, and developmentally appropriate psychological practice with girls and women across the lifespan from all social classes, ethnic and racial groups, sexual orientations, abilities and disabilities, and other diversity statuses in the U.S. and globally; and, (2) provide general recommendations informing psychological practice with girls and women. The Guidelines address the strengths of girls and women, their intersectional identities, the challenges they face, lifespan considerations, as well as research, education, training and health care. Besides psychologists, other professionals and consumers of psychological services may find these guidelines of interest and relevance.

The proposed Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Girls and Women have been developed by a Joint Task Force for Revision of the Guidelines for Psychological Practice with Girls and Women (Divisions 35 (Society for the Psychology of Women) and 17 (Society for Counseling Psychology)).  The Board of Professional Affairs and Committee on Professional Practice and Standards appreciate the strong efforts of this group to revise the guidelines in response to ongoing board and committee input.
